- 06/21/17--12:25: [Baseball] McKenzie Named To 2017 ABCA/Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove Team
Kansas City, Mo. – Junior pitcher Matthew McKenzie (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) represented Saint Xavier University on the 2017 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove Team when the honorees were announced by the NAIA national office Wednesday afternoon. The nine-member team, as selected by the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association All-America Committee, recognizes players across the nation for their defensive success during the 2017 campaign. The last time that the SXU baseball program had a player named to the NAIA's Gold Glove team was 2007 with former standout outfielder Tony Testin. McKenzie was the lone pitcher on this year's team and owned a perfect fielding percentage (1.000) behind 19 assists.
The Athletics Department at Trinity Christian College is committed to making a difference on our campus and in our community. Each athletics team is encouraged to find ways in which they can serve those around them, share their gifts and talents, and demonstrate the love of Christ through word and action. Throughout the 2016-17 academic year the teams, and the department as a whole, took part in a variety of activities in both local and distant communities to fulfill the mission of the College and the Athletics Department as follow the spirit of the NAIA Champions of Character initiative.
