KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (Opening Round Schedule | Video Selection Show) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the 45-team field and brackets for the 2016 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. The event, which is a five-team, double-elimination format, takes place May 17 – 20 at nine host locations. The nine Opening Round champions join Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at the 60th annual Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, May 27 – June 3.

AUSTIN, Texas --- The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference gained three spots on the prestigious Academic All-America College Division Softball Team for 2016, it was announced Tuesday morning.  The selection of the first and second teams, both of which consist of 11 members, are made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

In a department-wide effort, each team was encouraged to actively get involved in service projects or community work. The response was very positive as teams intentionally sought out opportunities to serve others and impact their surrounding communities.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – (Box Score) Pitcher Nicole Nonnemacher proved why she is the NAIA's leading strikeout artist as the Saint Xavier (Ill.) senior whiffed 13 batters and sent the fourth-seeded Cougars to a 1-0 win over No. 5 Simpson (Calif.) at the 36th Annual NAIA Softball World Series, presented by Security National Bank and Morningside College. Nonnemacher entered the contest with a NAIA-best 410 strikeouts in 231 1/3 innings for a 12.4 average per 7 innings.

AUSTIN, Texas --- Olivet Nazarene University's Oscar Mancineiras Cornella (Lleida, Spain) was one of 22 players selected to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Men's At-Large Team, which was announced on Monday.  The at-large team for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, wrestling and volleyball.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saint Xavier University senior pitcher Nicole Nonnemacher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) has been named the inaugural Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NAIA National Player of the Year, announced the Association on Wednesday afternoon.  Nonnemacher, who led the NAIA with 455 strikeouts and ranked second overall in batting average against (.129), played an integral part in the national runner-up finish for the Cougars.  The three-time NAIA Pitcher of the Year earned her second straight first-team All-American selection and third recognition overall.  She finished 2016 with a 31-6 record, 1.00 ERA and 17 shutouts in 266.1 innings of work.
